Rescuing the Rescuers

The HMS Investigator set out to find the lost Franklin expedition in 1852. A year later, it became trapped in ice in Canada’s Mercy Bay, and its crew had to be rescued. This illustration is one of a series by Samuel Gurney Cresswell, a lieutenant on the ship.
