Loggerhead sea-turtle hatch-lings rely on the Earth’s magnetic field to determine their east-west position during their round-trip transoceanic migration from Florida, say researchers at the University of North Carolina. Scientists had long believed that animals could use the magnetic field to determine only north-south orientation.
