Here, preparations are made for the 39th and final mission of space shuttle Discovery on Feb. 23, 2011. The shuttle launched from and landed at Kennedy Space Center, and will make its permanent home there as well. Only one launch — space shuttle Atlantis — remains at press time, as NASA prepares to shutter the 30-year-old manned space exploration program. The final shuttle mission is set to blast off in July.
