Here, a part of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector is shown in Cessy, France. CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, uses it to study particle physics. The CMS experiment employs a general-purpose detector to investigate a wide range of physics, including the search for the Higgs boson, extra dimensions and particles that might make up dark matter.
